The Lighthouse Day Nursery is run within purpose-built facilities which opened in September 2001 at The Kings Centre. It is registered with OFSTED to take 28 children between the ages of 0 to 5 years, offering both full and part time places. The children are looked after by qualified nursery staff and there is also auxiliary help, including a cook.
We provide the highest quality nursery care in a happy, friendly and stimulating environment. The nursery is managed by enthusiastic and dedicated professionals who will ensure the very best care for your child, with a real sense of family being our priority.
Real time CCTV is recorded, providing open accountability and security. Uniquely, parents are also able to view their children at play via a secure, password-controlled webcam facility.
Aims and objectives
The Lighthouse Day Nursery aims to provide a caring environment in which to encourage a child's personal, physical, social, spiritual, intellectual and emotional development. We aim to support the family's individual need for pre-school education by developing care appropriate for that individual child and his/her carers. We will ensure all children have equal access to services and aim to balance the needs of the individual, encouraging them to fulfil their potential. We will provide for children with particular learning, physical or behavioural needs within our overall service. It is our aim to encourage the active involvement of parents and carers in this particular pre-school setting, and will provide information appropriate to your child's care and education.
We are also seeking to develop a real involvement in the community, encouraging further scope for learning and creative links with the children's future education providers. Staff and volunteers alike are greatly valued and every effort is made to continue with vocational training. Opportunities will be made to provide the best support, to further Early Years training.
We will provide a safe environment which promotes health, individuality, dignity and an opportunity for fun, free from any discrimination such as racism or sexism. We provide a range of clearly written policies to outline our day-to-day care for the children, which are regularly reviewed and updated. We will continue to develop our learning experiences primarily for fun and self-development, in line with the Foundation Stage of the Early Learning Curriculum, for a child's admission to school. We will always hold the child's interests as our primary goal.
Curriculum planning
The nursery curriculum is developed around the individual needs of each child. When accepting a place at the nursery, you will be introduced to the child's keyworker and together you will start to plan for your child's future time at the nursery. We use information that you provide, alongside in-depth knowledge of child development, to formulate a play-based education programme that nurtures the child's emotional, intellectual, social, physical and spiritual needs.
From birth to rising 4's, we target a balance of family atmosphere with a stimulating educational programme that focuses on individual learning and achievements. You are part of this curriculum building and your views and requests help us to serve your child and family best. You are most welcome to participate in all nursery activities.
3-4 year olds will work towards the Foundation Stage of the National Curriculum, to ease the transition from nursery to school.
